I am always on the lookout for great freebies. I found this one last night. I signed up for it and was quite impressed with the speed of the connection. Wanted to pass it on to my teacher friends as well.

The Recommend Books for Teachers page is up and running. The links work and many new books have been added to the list. Last week I was not aware that the links didnt work properly and since have corrected the problem.
This
weekend I found what I thought was a really good FREE ISP. It is one from Excite. It
has local numbers to many places in the US. I downloaded it for a second Internet
connection in case my other one is down or is busy. I love AOL but sometimes get a busy
signal with them. At night it can be slow going from one screen to another. It occurred to
me that the ones subscribed to this list might be having the same problem. I tried the
free ISP and set my AOL up with a second connection (ISP/LAN connection) and was I
surprised at the increase of speed in AOL with this connection. The address for the FREE
ISP through Excite is
http://www.bachsys.com/cgi-bin/freeisp.pl?siggy
I plan to use this connection for my laptop when I am traveling since it has so many cities listed as local numbers.
Over 70 percent of my newsletter group get their newsletter through AOL. I am including the steps on how to add a TCP/IP connection for those members. I was quite impressed with how much faster AOL was under the TCP/IP connection using an ISP as the dial up.
Here are the steps to setting up a second connection on AOL
as a TCP/IP connection.
1. Go to the sign on screen of AOL.
2. Click on "Setup"
Choose "Create a location to use with new access or phone number or an ISP"
Click on "Next"
Name it "Second Connection"
Click on option "Add a custom connection (for example TCP/IP)
Click on "Next"
My screen said something about a modem connection. I just said "OK"
3. When you go to the log on screen, go to "Select Location" and choose
"Second Connection"
A screen will come up that says "Add Numbers - Choose the second option on that page
that says "Go to a custom connection setup (expert or TCP/IP)
Click "Next"
Dont change anything on the "Add number screen"
Click "OK"
4. Log on your free ISP, click on Internet Explorer or Netscape, and then log on to AOL
using the second connection.
Remember to send out a free Presidents Day card by Monday. I dont have to work on Monday so I plan to send them out to all of my friends that DO to work
Although the online version of this newsletter is for easier access for members using AOL it is actually is much easier to read and to access the links than the email version
